Robotics Club a Success!

The 2009-2010 Averill Park Algonquin Middle School Robotics Club was a huge success during its first year.  The Robotics Club is a part of Averill Park's expanded drive to promote a hands-on environment in which students can learn technological, mathematical and scientific skills.  It was founded with a grant from the APEF.

Students used Lego Mindstorm robots and programming software to create original robots that would interact with their environments.  To showcase all that learned, the students organized a "Robo-thon" in the spring of 2010.  The students also were able to take a field trip in May 2010 to the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at SUNY Albany and participate in CNSE NanoCareer Day.  The visit to UAlbany was designed to help spike student interest for a growing number of nanotechnology-related career opportunities in the Capital Region and New York State, while also addressing the critical national need to stimulate students' interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
